Shaheer Mid-term Proposal

I have always been interested in how movies and images manipulate human emotions. When our mood is down, a slapstick comedy will often make us feel better. Sad movies can make us feel depressed for days. The image of a child’s smile is able to lift our spirits. What if our emotions and thoughts could manipulate the images, instead of the other way round? Our happy feelings would be able to create beautiful sunny images; if we are angry, the images we create would be dark and ominous. If we are sad, the images on the screen would match our mood.

For my mid-term project, I want to create an installation where the images of the installation change in response to the emotions of the viewer. As people watch a screen, the screen will show an action or image that is related to their emotion and mirrors their feelings. Viewers will be able to press four buttons that relate to human emotions - happiness, sorrow, anger, and fear. If the viewer presses the “happy” button, the screen might show a video of a beautiful sunny day and the viewer would feel relaxed and happy. Or if the viewer presses the “fear” button, the image of a scary face might pop up and the viewer gets spooked. The point of this project is to show the interaction of images/videos and people’s emotion.

For this project, I will use the arduino board, four SPDT MOMENTARY PC MOUNT PUSHBUTTON, my Mac Book Pro and some youtube videos or images relating to the four emotions.
